Pentaerythritol also known as Monopentaerythritol, is an organic compound with the formula C(CH2OH)4. Classified as a polyol,it is a white solid.Pentaerythritol is a building block for the synthesis and production of explosives, plastics,paints, appliances,cosmetics, and many other commercial products.Pentaerythritol (Penta) is a white crystalline polyhydric alcoholcontaining four primary hydroxyl groups. Applications are building block in Alkyd resins, radiation curing monomers, polyurethanes, rosin esters and synthetic
lubricants.

Pentaerythritol is mainly used in the coating industry and can be used to manufacture alkyd resin coatings, which can improve the hardness, luster, and durability of the coating film. It is also used as a raw material for rosin resin required for paints, varnishes, and printing inks, and can be used to produce dry oils,smoldering coatings, and aviation lubricants. In addition, it is also used in the production of pharmaceuticals,pesticides, etc. Pentaerythritol molecules contain four equivalent hydroxymethyl groups, which have high symmetry and are often used as raw materials for the production of multifunctional compounds. From its nitration, pentaerythritol tetranitrate can be obtained, which is a high explosive;Esterification yields pentaerythritoltriacrylate, which is used as a coating. It can also be used as a flame retardant foradhesives, and when combined with ammonium polyphosphate, an intumescent flame retardant can be obtained. Also used as a crosslinking agent for polyurethane,providing branched chains within the polyurethane.

Storage and Transportation:

When the concentration of pentaerythritol dust in the air reaches above 30g/m3, it can form an explosive mixture with the air,and explosion occurs when it exceeds 400 ℃. Therefore, it should be stored in a cool, dry, and ventilated place, moisture-proof and fireproof.
